JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Audit Associate will play a critical role in supporting the Internal Audit Department across various functions, including Internal Audit, Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance, and Enterprise Risk Management. This position is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of SOX controls and assisting in the planning, execution, and reporting of financial, operational, and IT compliance-related audits and projects. In this capacity, the Senior Audit Associate will assess policies, controls, and governance processes while supporting SGC’s initiative to incorporate a “risk mindset” into the organization. The individual will also assist in executing the annual Internal Audit Plan, evaluating the implementation of audit recommendations, and reporting on the status of risk mitigation activities. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with the business to develop the company’s Enterprise Risk Management program. The Senior Audit Associate will be expected to complete moderately complex work assignments in a timely manner, requiring a high degree of organization.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Audit & Risk Execution and Project Management –

  • Assist in the documentation and testing of controls in support of the Company’s Sarbanes-Oxley Act Section 404 compliance activities.
  • Create accurate, logical and detailed work papers, clearly documenting the work performed, results of testing, and conclusions reached.
  • Assist in the identification of audit scope, staffing requirements, timetable, and budget.
  • Assist in developing test plans and methodologies to evaluate and audit business processes and controls.
  • Assess compliance with established company policies/procedures.
  • Assess risk factors to identify high risk areas within the organization.
  • Take ownership and independently manage the evaluation of SOX controls with moderate oversight.
  • Perform root cause analysis on exceptions identified during audits.
  • Help to develop and support the Enterprise Risk Management initiative.
  • Validate issues with stakeholders; assist with report writing as needed.
  • Assist with tracking results of prior audits, identifying audit themes across organizations and determining if appropriate corrective action has been taken regarding significant audit concerns.
  • Play a supporting role in developing the Data Analytics function for the department.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.

Relationship Management and Development –

  • Build and maintain relationships with business partners at the manager and staff levels.
  • Share knowledge of the SOX program approach and methodologies to raise awareness and facilitate understanding across the organization.
  • Provide advice and share knowledge with business partner managers and staff to strengthen governance, risk and control environments, as appropriate.
  • Maintain knowledge of current accounting and auditing practices and regulations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • 3-6 years of progressive experience in relevant functional areas such as Audit, Accounting, and Risk Management.
  • Have a solid working knowledge in general accounting and auditing standards.
  • Results-oriented, highly analytical, and have keen attention to detail as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Display good leadership and interpersonal skills while working in a team environment.
  • A CPA or CIA is desired
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as business needs require.
