JOB SUMMARY
The Accounting Manager is responsible for all financial record keeping and reporting for the Superior Cloth and Stitch, a division of Superior Group of Companies (SGC). This role develops and maintains accounting practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, assisting accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight, banking duties, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Supervises three to five staff members, and ensures that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
- Analyzes inventory and cost-of-goods data for daily, monthly and quarterly reporting requirements.
- Assists with annual physical inventories (some travel involved).
- Assists in preparation of monthly salesperson commissions and reporting to upper management.
- Prepares/reviews/analyzes ad-hoc reports as needed.
- Assists in preparation of profitability reporting and allocation of costs to markets.
- Helps with preparation and review of management and SEC reporting.
- Supports preparation of audit schedules and analysis.
- Assists the Treasurer in the daily banking requirements.
- Reviews all GL accounts and reconciliations for accuracy and support for transactions.
- Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
- Supports staff on all monthly closing tasks.
- Assists in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
- Provides training to new and existing staff as needed.
- Handles personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
- Works with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
- Supports Assistant Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting
- 5+ years of supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy with strong analytical and reporting skills
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple job tasks concurrently
- Ability to communicate (verbal and written) across cultures and hierarchies
- Strong analytical/critical thinking skills
- Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA or MBA preferred, but not required
- Experience with SEC Reporting is preferred
- Experience with SAP or other large ERP system a plus
