Earth Day Year Round: Superior Uniform Group is Recognized for Eco-Commitment
SEMINOLE, Fla., April 19, 2011– Superior Uniform Group, Inc, (NASDAQ: SGC), designer and manufacturer of uniforms, image apparel and accessories, has been honored for their continued support of the Keep Pinellas Beautiful Inc.’s Adopt-A-Shore program.
Adopt-A-Shore, is a Pinellas County, Fla. program encouraging volunteer groups to adopt a one mile section of county shoreline. Through this cooperative partnership, debris is collected from the shoreline on a regular basis, creating a more hospitable and green environment.
Superior Uniform Group joined the Adopt-A-Shore program in December 2008. Every two months, volunteers from Superior’s Green Team clean their assigned one mile stretch of Madeira Beach, in Pinellas County. Since 2008, Superior’s Green Team has picked up more than 1000 lbs of trash, including thousands of aluminum cans, plastic bottles and cigarette butts. Superior’s scheduled Adopt-A-Shore event on April 14, 2011 marked the 15th time the group has participated.
“As a cornerstone of our company culture, we believe it is our responsibility to continually review objectives to protect, conserve and re-use resources and reduce pollution within our products, our facilities and our community. The two-plus years our Green Team has participated in the Adopt-A-Shore program reflects our overall Green philosophy,” said Superior Uniform Group CEO Michael Benstock. “We are proud to be recognized for our participation.”
A strong green commitment is also reflected in Superior Uniform Group’s products and facilities. Environmentally friendly fabrics are used in Superior’s FabriConscious® line of uniforms and tailored apparel. This includes EcoPoly, which contains polyester made from recycled water bottles. Superior’s facilities are also eco-friendly, with active recycling and conservation programs in place. Annual paper usage has decreased by more than 1,700,000 sheets and energy consumption by more than 30 percent.
