Superior Uniform Group Outfits More Than 70 children with Clothes for the New School Year
SEMINOLE, Fla., September 12, 2011—Starting the school year off with new clothes is a rite of passage for many children. However, in Pinellas County, about half of the 112,000 students, grades K-12, live at or below poverty level (Source: Pinellas County School Board) and are not able to afford a brand new wardrobe to show off and help them fit in on the first day of school. In recognition of this gap, Superior Uniform Group recently held a clothing drive in coordination with Clothes To Kids—collecting enough clothes to donate a wardrobe of a week’s worth of clothing to more than 70 under-privileged students.
“This is the second time we have worked with Clothes To Kids to provide our county’s future with clothes,” said Superior Uniform Group’s CEO, Michael Benstock. “When we design and manufacture garments for our customers, we do so knowing that the right look can help a person fit in and feel better about him or herself. The same idea applies, perhaps even more, to children.”
Led by Superior Uniform Group’s Green Team, a team dedicated to educating and empowering the company’s employees to be socially and environmentally responsible, the employees came together and donated more than 1,000 articles of new or gently used clothes, 120 packages of underwear and 59 packages of socks to Clothes To Kids.
According to Clothes To Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing new and quality used clothing to low-income, school-age children in Pinellas County, free of charge, a full wardrobe consists of a week’s worth of clothing, consisting of:
- 5 pairs of new underwear
- 5 pairs of new socks
- 4 bottoms (shorts, pants, skirts)
- 5 tops
- 1 dress (for Females)
- 1 pair of shoes
- 1 jacket (seasonal)
“At Clothes To Kids we rely on our community to donate the gently used or new clothing we need to provide wardrobes for our clients. When a local company donates 16 bags of beautiful clothing that we can put right out on the floor it is a difference maker –especially at this time of year when we are serving 100 children a day! We are grateful for the culture of giving that Superior Uniform Group encourages and that they really love our mission! We are proud to have them as a partner,” said Fran Goodwin, Development Director, Clothes To Kids.
Benstock added, “We are proud that we are able to give back to the community in such a substantial way. Supporting the communities where we do business has always been a priority for this company, and this is just one more way in which we can help improve the lives of others.”
