Vice President of Tax (Remote)

JOB SUMMARY

leadership for the global Tax organization. This position will lead the design and implementation of global tax policy and strategies and contribute as a key member of the finance leadership team. Reporting to the CFO, the Vice President, Global Tax will be expected to build and develop a Tax department that identifies and implements best practices and optimizes tax structure.

Specific tax responsibilities will include all U.S. and international tax research, planning, provision, compliance and tax controversy with all applicable federal, state, local, and foreign tax laws and regulations, direct and indirect taxes. The Vice President, Global Tax will also interact with the operating company executives and the General Counsel to proactively identify opportunities to minimize the corporation’s effective tax rate, maximize cash management opportunities, and carefully manage risks.  The successful candidate will also be responsible for assessing and communicating to senior management the potential tax consequences of existing laws and pending legislation.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and coaches tax department team members to work in a collaborative, open, motivating and high achieving environment
  • Leads the tax-related analysis of business activities, structures and commercial transactions, including the identification and evaluation of alternatives and recommendation of solutions to senior management
  • Researches and monitors changes in domestic and foreign tax legislation, rulings, regulations, and litigation, understand relevant impacts and implements responsive actions
  • Creates global tax strategies and ensures the are executed properly
  • Establishes global tax policies and procedures and minimizes the cash tax liability and optimize the overall effective tax rate
  • Develops tax efficient strategies for acquisitions and dispositions
  • Assesses and communicates significant tax issues to senior management
  • Ensures global tax compliance with tax laws of all jurisdictions in which SGC operates
  • Represents SGC before all domestic and foreign tax examiners and defend the tax positions taken, including negotiation of transfer pricing and other tax issues, appeals filings and directing litigation
  • Develops tax-efficient international and domestic structures while achieving administrative efficiency and operational flexibility
  • Establishes and updates tax planning models to forecast the utilization of tax attributes, changes in tax positions and other opportunities
  • Assures the adequacy of U.S. GAAP tax provisions, tax reserves and deferred income taxes
  • Ensures all global tax accounting is properly performed and complies with current U.S. GAAP and statutory GAAP, as applicable
  • Implements procedures to ensure accurate and timely preparation and filing of federal, state and local income and franchise tax returns, indirect tax returns, and property tax returns
  • Provides direction to external tax consultants and counsel

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • 5 years of public and/or private accounting experience
  • 5 years international tax experience
  • M&A and tax planning experience
  • Excellent knowledge of tax strategies and planning, and broad experience and comfort with all relevant tax areas
  • Strong leadership experience and “lead-by-example” mindset

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree
  • JD and/or CPA
